Summer in Mayrhofen: Nature all around. Plenty of sports. Masses of entertainment.
Hikers love this place. Bikers love this place. Mountaineers are inspired by it. It’s pure indulgence. The upper Zillertal around Mayrhofen has a veritable treasure trove of holiday ideas – inspiring hiking areas, picturesque alpine huts, welcoming traditional guesthouses, magnificent biking trails and so many different ways to ‘get away from it all’ including paragliding and climbing. If holidays are all about switching off and enjoying yourself, there are also plenty of ways to while away the hours with sophisticated spa hotels and cosy, traditional inns serving typical Zillertal cuisine. As you gradually saunter up Zillertal to the magnificent mountaintop landscapes – past idyllic meadows, through dusky mountain forests – you emerge on an upper alpine region peppered with captivating escarpments and an array of alpine peaks. What better way to pamper body and mind than a brisk walk around Mayrhofen along the upper Ziller glens. With some 200km of hiking trails there is plenty of variety, plenty of impressive sights – naturally including original alpine huts, ideal for a hearty snack with genuine Zillertal bacon and mountain cheese. The 372 square kilometre Ziller nature reserve is also a hiker’s paradise. Accompanied by experienced guides, discover the natural beauty of an untouched mountain region – family walks along ancient smuggler routes or to picturesque huts and alpine inns such as the Berliner Hütte, are just a selection of the many highlights. To discover this magnificent countryside there’s no need for any alpine experience. Enjoying a relaxing walk or taking to the peaks in a cable car are as much a part of the enjoyment here as day trips and longer tours – the Adlerweg ‘eagle tour’, the Berliner heights or the Via Alpina. |
