Report Ästhetiker Jam 2008
Swedish kid wins biggest snowboard contest in Austria. The Ästhetiker Jam Wängl Tängl 2008 has its champion. Andreas Gidlund from Sweden dominated against 23 other riders despite the bad weather conditions. He wins the Jam with two incredible runs and now does not only count 2000€ more in his pockets but also a brand new Suzuki Motocross. Despite the bad weather conditions the level of riding was impressive. 7s, 9s and 10s were thrown down constantly. Apart from the normal judging there also were some pretty nice extra competitions going on. Stefan Gimpl showed a Fs 10er – a horizontal spin of 1080 degrees - , followed by a stylish BS 5 and a Cab 9 (backwards take off) - gaining him the award for the Most Impressive Line. Tyler Chorlton from Andorra went full on and did another incredible Double Frontflip over the Vans Kicker giving him the award for best Trick of the Day. But there usually is no Wängl Tängl without an Ästhetiker on the podium. After Steve Gruber filled this position last year, Wolle Nyvelt took over this time and placed 3rd. He was the only one using the Cradle of teh Red Bull End Section to the fullest and had already done so the day before. But also his Kicker and Alternative Lines were full of highlights. Frontside 5, Sw Bs 5 and Bs 7 Chicken Wing and a solid run on the Alternative Line put him in 3. position. The same with Elias Elhardt from Germany. Beside a super technical Bs 9 – Cab 9 Combo on the lower kickers he did a incredibly stylish Fs 3 Stale – a trick that is not the most difficult one but definetely one of the most stylish ones. But in the end Andreas Gidlund took the lead: he managed to gain a lot of points on the Alternative Line and performed the most technical trick of the week winning him the Best Rail Trick Award on the Carharrt Down Rail and a Carharrt BMX. So he will be taking home two bikes: the Suzuki RMZ 250 Motocross motorized version and the BMX. His Kicker Line consisted of a Fs 10, a Bs 9 and a Sw Bs 7. Every trick tweeked and grabbed all the way through . He truly served to win the Wängl Tängl. Good news for Rudi Kroell too. His good ranking today in this 5 Star Swatch TTR World Tour Contest put him in the top 25 on the World Ranking. With that, Waengl Taengl 2008 is over. Even though struggling with the weather, the whole week was a great success. Hardly any riders got hurt, great snowboarding and as every year, riders, visitors and everybody else was stoked on the contest and had great fun during the whole week. After being held the sixth time, the Waengl Taengl still is a lot more than a regular snowboard contest. For the first time the whole event was expanded over a whole week. Apart from the snowboard contest there were side events every day, just like the Vans Photo Award, won by the team James Bryant, Stuart Horsham, Mark Ruparelia. The skate contest was an outstanding highlight of the week. International skaters rode one of the best miniramps in Europe. The Crowd pushed the riders more and more and they thanked them by giving back one of the best miniramp contest in Austria ever. Especially the Austrian Roman Astleitner und Andy Scott from the UK pushed it till the very end and deserved to win the contest. The skate contest is no longer a side event, but a great contest on its own. It was a full week of fun, meeting friends and great action on the mountain as well as in the miniramp. Hopefully all the effort put in the event is going to be honoured with good weather next year, giving all the riders the chance to really show all tricks they want. |
